On Friday, May 19 2017 workers at the AT&T store located in the Providence Place Mall held a picket line protest calling for a contract settlement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). With support from Rhode Island Jobs with Justice, they distributed informational flyers to mall customers. At a certain point security guards in yellow, as well as a Providence Police officer standing several hundred feet adjacent from their picket, did try to influence both the power dynamic and whether onlookers would be allowed to shoot photos, with the bald guard saying “mall policy” was against taking pictures. However, throughout they were quite obviously beholden to the whims of the protesting workers.
