Simultaneous with the serializing of Taxi Searchers, we wanted to bring you a classic documentary about the Old Left in America and its impact.
A unique documentary that looks at the political activities of the American Communist Party in the early to mid-twentieth century. Directed by Jim Klein and Julia Reichert.
”SEEING RED,” an affectionate documentary by Julia Reichert and James Klein about the history of American Communism, works best on the level of anecdote. The film makers interview a number of longtime radicals who describe why and how they first joined the Communist Party, how they were affected by the 1956 revelations about Stalinism and what their lives and politics have subsequently been like. The material is presented fondly and more or less uncritically, even on several occasions when the interviewees’ evident rationalizations would seem to call for closer questioning. –Janet Maslin
